  • Connect (S)

This circular flow works towards a firm intention and is based on the four elements that bring connection between you and each of the Elements in the Universe – Earth, Water, Fire and Air. Each of these elements have their corresponding Chakra energy centers and group of muscles. The Mayan calendar will set the intention for the class and then inspired by the spiral patterns of nature, you will explore circular movements around all four corners of your mat. Flowing in this 360 degree circle, slightly slower than a fiery vinyasa class, this class prioritises breath to movement connection and whilst it is full body, will work on a particular target area (element) in the body. Starting and ending with a short yin session to ‘prepare’ and ‘close’ the areas of the body, this is a fun, dynamic and powerful class that has creativity combined with repetition to build strength, flexibility and a connection to the elements of nature. Air will work on the Anahata / Heart Chakra with quads, shoulders and heart opening backbends to help us find space in our hearts, our social identify and self love. Fire will work on glutes and spinal twists to energetically activate the Manipura / Solar Plexus Chakra and our sense of self and power Water targets the groin and hips working with pour Svadhishthana / Sacral Chakra and our source of movement, emotions and creativity Earth with its grounding poses and focus on hamstrings and forward folds will activate our Muladhara / Root Chakra and our sense of security and stability.

  • Breathe (G)

Breathe is 75 minutes of gentle movement, yogic breathing techniques (Pranayama) and guided relaxation. This is a smooth, calm and deeply restorative practice designed to nourish your nervous system, increase and sustain your energy, and nurture your inner light so you can find healing from within. A yogic breath is a breath filled with Prana - life force, vitality, energy. Through traditional pranayama techniques, combined with gentle movement, you’ll learn to breathe consciously, expansively, slowly and with control. Pranayama is far more than a set of breathing exercises; it is a way of enhancing your intake of Prana by bringing your mind, body and emotions into harmony. From a practical perspective regular attendance of this class will help increase lung capacity, renew energy and improved sleep as well as quicker recovery from physical exertion resulting in a better life quality. All this from slow conscious breath. Suitable for beginners and those seeking gentleness, this class offers options to sit on cushions, lean against the wall or lie down — ensuring comfort, accessibility and ease throughout. Expect to leave feeling rested yet rejuvenated, spacious yet grounded… restored by the quiet magic of Prana. This class is taken by Sarah Hart, a teacher qualified in Gitananda Yoga Pranayama. She found yogi breathing when suffering from Long Covid and found relief of her symptoms almost instantly. She trained for 500 hours with Deepika and Yogacharya Dr Ananda Balayogi of ICYER Ananda Ashram, Pondicherry, India to become a qualified yogic breath teacher. She is excited to share this transformative practice with us.

  • Bookish

Welcome to ‘Bookish’, the Yogi Sanctuary monthly book club where literature and mindful living converge. In addition to practising the yogic philosophy of Svadyaya, which is centred around growth and transformation through reading and reflection, Bookish will host regular, literary-inspired experiences to enrich mind, body and soul, from film screenings and literary trips to opportunities to respond to books in holistic ways. Our meetings will be facilitated by ‘writing for wellbeing’ practitioner Sian Hughes, a local writer recently shortlisted for ‘Wales Book of the Year’. Each month we will vote on our chosen book for the coming month from a selection proposed by Sian. Sian takes into account all the types of books we like to read, though sometimes these may take us outside our comfort zone. There will even be a sprinkling of classics amongst the choices. We get the chance to propose books too. This club is about sharing our love of all things book. We have kept the price of this regular event low at just £5 and it includes lovely mugs of tea or coffee. But bring some pennies on the day as for just £2.50 you can also enjoy a slab of delicious cake made fresh for us by Grey Rabbit Cakes, our wonderful cake maker here in Pentyrch. Numbers are limited to 12 so do book early to avoid disappointment. **** Sian Hughes is a writer and creative practitioner who regularly works in schools and community settings, designing and delivering holistic writing and reading programmes that improve the wellbeing of participants. Sian is currently working on her second collection of short stories, ‘Doll Skin’, after her debut short story collection ‘Pain Sluts’ was shortlisted for 2022 ‘Wales Book of the Year’. Sian lives in Creigiau with her family and other animals!
