A Flurry of Activity

Writer: StefStef

This week I have seen the build gallop forward. So much has been done in such a short period of time:

  • As the roof is finished, the scaffolding has now come down.

  • The exposed beams, that run width ways in the studio and from which I will hang my aerial yoga silks are in place. The boards that then run the length of the studio are in ready for the ceiling plaster boarding and plastering to start.

  • The building has been pretty much rewired with all of the wall and ceiling light cabling done. Switches, sockets and a new fuse box are next

  • The cabling is in for the emergency lighting and fire detection too.

  • The stud walls are done in the studio and the radiators are installed with all the pipe work fitted and leading to the area where the boiler will be installed this coming week.

  • The toilet and changing room cubicle has been built and holes have been made through the walls for water and waste. This I am told is a horrible horrible job. There is 6 inch concrete to get through and it is taking so so long!

  • The plasterboarding of the walls can now take place in the studio and toilet area ready for the plastering.

  • The framework to block off the void above the studio ceiling from the kitchen and office has been erected ready for plasterboarding. This was the viewing gallery over the squash court and will now form a wall for my kitchen units and office shelving to back onto.

There is still so much to do still of course, but Phil and Harry (builders), Budgie (heating engineer) and Andrew and team (electricians) have ticked off so much this week. It no longer looks like a squash court and I can get a real feel for the size of the spaces now.

The window openings are being created this week so that the windows can be ordered. The front door is already on order as are the curtains, the lighting and the barres that will run the length of the room. My home office is a storage room now for a vanity unit, sink and toilet, kitchen bits and bobs, new yoga equipment and the old squash court notice board that I am refurbishing to keep a little bit of history in the place.
