  • Tai Chi Shibashi (G)

We are delighted to welcome Tai Chi Shibashi Set 1 to our schedule. It is a gentle standing movement practice originating from China, created to support health, balance and relaxation. The word Tai Chi comes from the Chinese concept Taiji, meaning “Supreme Ultimate” — the harmonious balance of opposing forces such as movement and stillness, effort and ease. Shibashi means “18 movements,” referring to the sequence of simple, flowing shapes practised in the class. Shibashi blends the flowing quality of traditional Tai Chi with the simplicity of Qigong (energy cultivation). Movements are slow, continuous and repeated, coordinated with natural breathing. This is why Tai Chi and Shibashi are often described as “meditation in movement.” Rather than focusing the mind through stillness, awareness is gently anchored in the body, the breath and the smooth transitions between movements — helping to calm the nervous system while keeping the body softly active. Benefits may include: - improved balance and coordination - increased joint mobility and ease of movement - reduced stress and tension - enhanced energy and circulation - a calm, focused and grounded state of mind - lowers blood pressure - improves the immune system - easy to learn No experience is needed. Movements are gentle, symmetrical and easily adapted to suit your body. Mondays 2-3pm £8 drop-in £7.50 per class when booking a block of 4 The classes are practiced bare foot or in socks that have 'grippy' soles. No mat required. Classes are led by local teacher Gaynor Walters, who will guide you step by step through Shibashi Set 1 in a supportive and welcoming environment. Here is a little message from Gaynor What a privilege it is to take a Tai Chi class at Stefs amazing studio. The space couldn’t be more ambient. I started practising Tai Chi a few years ago and loved it. Having trained in dance from a young age and carried it through as a career Tai Chi felt so natural, the flow and feeling took me back to my dancing days. The benefit for me was great especially as I’m a carer for my 94 soon to be 95 year old Mum. An hour for me of peace, calm, and exercise, forgetting the hum drum of the outside world. When offered the opportunity to become an instructor I was a little nervous but excited for the challenge ahead. My training was with Tai Chi for Better Health who are excellent and we meet on zoom twice monthly. Hopefully I can now pass on to you the enjoyment and benefits of practise.

  • Made: Sea Glass Art

There is something quietly beautiful about sea glass. Once discarded and broken, years of waves, salt water and time soften sharp edges, transforming it into something shaped by nature into unexpected beauty. Join us for a peaceful afternoon of creativity, connection and mindful making as part of Made - our monthly craft and art club designed to bring people together through creativity, community and the simple wellbeing found in making something with your own hands. In this special workshop you will create your own framed sea glass artwork using a carefully curated collection of genuine Cornish sea glass, gathered from the beaches of Cornwall and shaped slowly by the ocean over many years. Tumbled by tides, weathered by time and carried by currents, every piece tells its own story. You will be provided with a beautiful wooden deep-set glass-fronted frame, quality card to work upon, driftwood and a collection of coastal treasures including shells and fragments of sea pottery to bring your design to life. Ideas and inspiration will be available throughout the session, but this is also an invitation to let creativity lead the way - creating something entirely your own. Whether you choose a coastal scene, a meaningful image, a whimsical design or something deeply personal, your finished piece will become a unique keepsake to take home. Sea glass begins sharp and broken, yet through time, movement and patience becomes something softened, resilient and beautiful. There is a beautiful poem called "I want to age like sea glass" by Bernadette Knoll - she weaves with words a lovely thought about sea glass."I want to age like sea glass. We get the chance to propose books too. This club is about sharing our love of all things book. We have kept the price of this regular event low at just £5 and it includes lovely mugs of tea or coffee. But bring some pennies on the day as for just £2.50 you can also enjoy a slab of delicious cake made fresh for us by Grey Rabbit Cakes, our wonderful cake maker here in Pentyrch. • Hooked

Hooked is Yogi Sanctuary’s monthly crochet club — a calm, friendly space to learn, create and connect. Inspired by the much-loved Knit & Natter gatherings found in villages across the country, Hooked is less about productivity and more about presence. It’s a place to slow your hands, quiet the mind, and enjoy gentle conversation while learning a new skill. You don’t need to know how to crochet — Laura will be there each meet up to teach you from the very beginning and help you build confidence at your own pace. Whether you’re completely new, returning after a break, or simply enjoy making things with your hands and you want to sit with like minded people, you’ll be warmly welcomed. The group is free to attend just bring what you are working on or a ball of wool and a hook (get in touch if you would like advice on what to buy). Hot drinks and biscuits are included — because this is as much about community as it is about crochet. Come to learn, to chat, or simply to sit quietly and stitch. There’s no pressure, no expectations — just time, company, and something gentle to focus on. I have 14 chairs and tables plus cushions and low tables. I have increased the maximum number able to attend therefore to free up the waiting list and let more people come along in anticipation of some of you happy to sit on a cushion. x
