Tai Chi Shibashi (G)
Gentle flowing Tai Chi to restore balance, calm the mind, restore balance and cultivate inner energy
Service Description
We are delighted to welcome Tai Chi Shibashi Set 1 to our schedule. It is a gentle standing movement practice originating from China, created to support health, balance and relaxation. The word Tai Chi comes from the Chinese concept Taiji, meaning “Supreme Ultimate” — the harmonious balance of opposing forces such as movement and stillness, effort and ease. Shibashi means “18 movements,” referring to the sequence of simple, flowing shapes practised in the class. Shibashi blends the flowing quality of traditional Tai Chi with the simplicity of Qigong (energy cultivation). Movements are slow, continuous and repeated, coordinated with natural breathing. This is why Tai Chi and Shibashi are often described as “meditation in movement.” Rather than focusing the mind through stillness, awareness is gently anchored in the body, the breath and the smooth transitions between movements — helping to calm the nervous system while keeping the body softly active. Benefits may include: - improved balance and coordination - increased joint mobility and ease of movement - reduced stress and tension - enhanced energy and circulation - a calm, focused and grounded state of mind - lowers blood pressure - improves the immune system - easy to learn No experience is needed. Movements are gentle, symmetrical and easily adapted to suit your body. Mondays 2-3pm £8 drop-in £7.50 per class when booking a block of 4 The classes are practiced bare foot or in socks that have 'grippy' soles. No mat required. Classes are led by local teacher Gaynor Walters, who will guide you step by step through Shibashi Set 1 in a supportive and welcoming environment. Here is a little message from Gaynor What a privilege it is to take a Tai Chi class at Stefs amazing studio. The space couldn’t be more ambient. I started practising Tai Chi a few years ago and loved it. Having trained in dance from a young age and carried it through as a career Tai Chi felt so natural, the flow and feeling took me back to my dancing days. The benefit for me was great especially as I’m a carer for my 94 soon to be 95 year old Mum. An hour for me of peace, calm, and exercise, forgetting the hum drum of the outside world. When offered the opportunity to become an instructor I was a little nervous but excited for the challenge ahead. My training was with Tai Chi for Better Health who are excellent and we meet on zoom twice monthly. Hopefully I can now pass on to you the enjoyment and benefits of practise.
